These release notes describe known issues for Version 1.1 of the
Pearl Comments Browser Extension for Internet Explorer which was released on
January 5th, 2006.
Significant Changes Since the 1.0 Release
- Improvements and Bug Fixes
- Improved the preferences interface. Users of the
Pearl Comments
hosted service only need to enter their organization ID, user name,
and password. Also, leading and trailing spaces are now trimmed from
fields where they are not appropriate.
- Fixed a bug where selections within frames and iframes were
ignored when adding comments. Now if a selection is made within a frame,
the selection is preserved and the comment is associated with the frame's
document (which means that the comment will not show up on the
Current Page tab when the frame container is viewed).
- A warning is now displayed when you attempt to delete a comment
that is currently being edited.
Known Issues
- On systems running older versions of Windows, you may get an
"authorization required" error
because Internet Explorer does not prompt for your user name and
password. In this case, you must enter your user name and
password and check "Remember my password" in the Pearl Comments
Options dialog.
- Due to a bug that Microsoft introduced in one of their security
fixes for Internet Explorer, some releases of Microsoft XML Core
Services (MSXML) do not allow authenticated requests to be sent.
If the Pearl Comments sidebar recognizes a problematic version of
MSXML, it will display an informative message. Refer to the
following Microsoft knowledge base articles for more information (article 887606
points to a fix that you should download):
MS04-004: Cumulative Security Update
for Internet Explorer (
832894)
XMLHTTP call fails for URLs with embedded user credentials (
832414)
FIX: The Microsoft XML Parser (MSXML) uses cached credentials
incorrectly (
887606)
- Occasionally, the selection associated with a comment may be off
by one character. In addition, sometimes the selection associated
with a comment created in Internet Explorer is not displayed in the
Mozilla-based browsers (and vice-versa). Please send us examples
of pages where you observe these kinds of problems.
- Spell checking is not implemented.
- The About Pearl Comments
dialog box does not retrieve server information (it always displays
"Information not available.")
